March 3,2020 – At PDAC 2020, WGM was proud to chair the first ever Moon
and Asteroid Mining Technical Session. The session brough together important
players from the space community with the terrestrial mining community with a
great deal of interest from attendees. Leading off the discussion was Photinie
Koutsavlis from NRCan whom outlined why space mining is important to
Canada and what the Federal government is doing to support the industry.
Attendees learned that space mining, specifically water, was a viable
commercial activity and that markets exist today. Technical and legal issues
were discussed, and mining methodologies explored. Ultimately, many mining
participants were surprised at the advanced state of space mining as a
commercial activity and were interested in learning more. WGM is pleased to
continue to support educational initiatives which bring together the space and
mining communities and stands ready to assist commercial entities with all of
their space mining and ISRU consulting service needs.
