Toronto, ON – Watts, Griffis and McOuat Ltd. (“WGM”), along with the entire Canadian Mining sector, wishes to honour and recognize the first National Truth and Reconciliation Day this Thursday, September 30th, 2021. We encourage all Canadians to pause at 2:15pm on Thursday for a moment of silence and reflection about the injustices inflicted on the Indigenous peoples of our country. The time is significant as it represents the 215 unmarked graves found at a residential school in British Colombia.
WGM, having worked alongside many First Nations individuals and communities, has listened to and learned about both the past legacy of suffering and the current situation directly from the Peoples affected. We feel it imperative that in order to heal as a country, we must hold our elected officials to account and work together as Canadians to bridge the divides that keep us from understanding and equality.
We encourage all Canadians to listen to Indigenous voices on September 30, 2021 and do their part for Truth and Reconciliation. A good place to begin is the Downie & Wenjack website located at: www.downiewenjack.ca which contains videos and recordings from Indigenous peoples and offers hope for a better tomorrow.
